So,

The Daft Punk synth at 1:00 is niiiiice.. I just hope it's not a sample. >_>
Mastering could really use some work, there's a lot of extra frequencies that don't need to be there. Try compressing your choir and not cutting out so much of the mids.

Besides all that, this is pretty damn original. 2:05ish, you got some harmonic problems. Also, at 0:50, the super reverb on your violins is messing with everything else. Lower the attack and cut some reverb during that section, i say. :p

Weird transistion at 2:55. The mix volume of violins and the harpsichord synth is kinda off, too.

Cool overall though.

wyldfyre1 responds:

thanks for the critique its always welcome.

Nice

i would humanize the piano more, but it's still good.
Change the velocities of the notes more too, the arpeggios are all at the same high velocity (or low, they are still all the same).
The drum break enters and leaves too quickly.. that is personal preference, I suppose, but yeah. FX at 3:00 is kinda awkward and maybe unnecessary, the song flows just fine without it. :D

Great!

I haven't found any decent hardstyle on NG till just now. Hardstyle is actually my favorite genre of electronic music, and this is just amazing. Do you make your own kicks and leads, if you do.. bravo! This is just amazing. :D

Great screeches too btw, to make them even more prominent, perhaps you could make a second one, but put it an octave with more LFO changes? Just an idea. I love the sliding saw lead too, btw.

Overall, one of the best pieces I've heard on Newgrounds.

ephixa responds:

Ya I make my own sounds.

Thanks for the praise! I have been trying hard to get on the top lists with this track.

Speechless.

I just want to move.

Ehh..

Very nice.. but the progression makes meh sigh.
I mean, excellent build-up n everything as with all of your songs, but the harmonic side of your music can grow stagnant.
Branch out. :D

Just,

This sounds like the result of Coheed and Cambria having a baby with Dream Theater.

That is all.

adompeace responds:

Umm... thanks? lol

Glad to have ya back!

...

How is everything you make so catchy. O_O

I usually try to leave reviews with constructive criticism.. but I have nothing to say. xD

Win.

Orchestral part at the beginning won me over already.. haha.
I like the beachside cut in the middle, but it's kinda odd in between here. xD

I, unlike everyone else it seems, really liked the long intro. :D
I think you did a great job making this song your own.
I loved it. :)

Simple and elegant. :D

Bossa nova feel? Yes. xD
Mario + Jazz = win.

Nice syncopation in the keys and sidestick rim taps. :D
Also, the melody sounds a looot like a section Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at 1:11."

"Rudolph with your nose so bright/
won't you guide my sleigh tonight."

That part. xD

Either way, still an awesome song. :)

First of all.

I hear a lot of stock Nexus samples.. :p
They are good to use, but if you are going to sample, at least change them to what -you- want them to sound like.

The lead is far too loud over the bass. The kick gets drowned out when it comes in.. and the melodies aren't very rhythmic or melodically challenging. ><
Structure is almost absent, and the piano in the end comes in randomly as the lead that was playing the whole song disappears in less than 5 seconds.

Need to work on EQ, melodies, layering, and build-up/structure.
Sorry if I sound harsh, but I'm trying to help.. it's not bad for one of your first songs. :D

Orsa

P.S. Also, this isn't trance. It's more of dance/hands up! xD

b0b3rt responds:

Thanks for the review (and criticisms) but Kazmo already mention most of what you touched on, and I realize I shouldn't end on a piano in a trance song >.<
Working on a much better mix of this song now, got FL Filter working nicely =p
